The Fruitport baseball team erupted for seven runs in the third inning and another seven in the fifth to nail down a 14-4 victory over NorthPointe Christian on Tuesday in O-K Silver conference action.

Fruitport improved to 4-0 overall and in the conference standings.

Ryan Bosch earned the win on the mound, throwing four strong innings while striking out eight and allowing just three hits. Satchel Norwood came in to close out the game in relief.

At the plate, the Trojans were led by Dexter Lillmars and Ryan Bosch, who each collected three hits. Jax Flynn and Trevor Rusnak also contributed with two hits apiece.

Bosch, Lillmars and Trevor Rusnak knocked in runs in the third inning. Lillmars and Flynn both had two RBIs in the fifth.

“We got behind early and faced some adversity for the first time,” said Fruitport head coach Nick Reed. “The boys stayed with our approach and started to grind out some at bats and started to barrel some balls.

“Our base running forced them into some key mistakes. But it was really about the boys staying locked in and not giving up while being down. It’s a great start, but we have a lot more games left and we hope to keep moving in a positive direction.”
