The Fruitport baseball team kept its perfect record intact on Thursday with a 17-2 victory over Godwin Heights in an O-K Silver conference matchup.

The victory completed a three-game series sweep for the Trojans, who improved to 9-0 overall and in the conference standings.

The game was competitive early on when the Wolverines scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

Fruitport quickly pulled ahead, however, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first, six in the second and three more in the third. The game ended early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Satchel Norwood, who had two hits in the victory.

Trevor Rusnak earned the win on the mound, scattering three hits while striking out eight and walking one.

Rusnak and Satchel Norwood led the Fruitport offense with two hits apiece.

“We continue to have a good approach at the plate and are doing a great job of not chasing pitches,” said Fruitport head coach Nick Reed. “There are still some things to clean up, but we’re progressing well.”

The Trojans will try to keep their hot streak going when they visit Traverse City Central on Friday.storageminith brandseddie
