The Fruitport girls soccer team has a pretty talented group of freshmen this season, and they aren’t taking long to make their presence noticed.
Two of those freshmen scored goals on Friday night, leading the Trojans to a 2-0 victory over Hart in their season opener at home.
The first goal came midway through the first half when freshman Myla Parker scored on a pass from senior McKenzie Beardsley.
The final goal came with 7:32 left in the first half when freshman Porter Johnson scored on a pass from fellow freshman McKenna Joslyn.Fruitport had a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal, and may have put more points on the board if it weren’t for several big saves by the Hart goalkeeper.
Trojan defenders Alexa Sweet, Maycee Hall, Izzy Hanson-Wilbur and Kenzie Pate were credited with playing a strong game on the back line.
“We saw plenty of good on the opening night, and also areas where we can improve on moving forward,” said Fruitport Coach Kyle Hall.
The Trojans will hit the field again next Wednesday in a road game against rival Spring Lake.
