Fruitport’s Izzy Hanson-Wilbur just keeps getting better and better.

The standout sophomore posted a rare triple-double on Thursday, scoring a career-high 31 points, along with a crazy 14 steals and 11 rebounds in a 60-44 victory over Sparta.

The victory gave the Trojans a final 7-15 regular season record. It was their first non-conference win of the season.

Fruitport led Sparta 12-10 after one quarter, then hit a buzzer-beating layup at the end of the second quarter, leaving the score tied 26-26 at halftime.

The Trojans took control of the game with an 18-7 advantage in the third quarter and led 44-33 headed into the fourth.

They capped off the win with a 16-11 edge in the final eight minutes.

Kenzie Pate hit three triples and finished with nine points for Fruitport. McKenzie Beardsley added seven points.

“We put a full game together,” said Fruitport head coach Brian Packard. “It was one of the most fun games that I’ve gotten a chance to coach. We had a game plan defensively and the girls did a great job following it, which helped Izzy get her steals. Lily Johnson, on the top of our zone, did a great job of forcing the ball to Izzy’s side, which allowed her to use her athleticism.

“It was nice to see that score sheet fill up for Pate and Beardsley, two of our senior leaders. They have been working their tails off to push these girls all season. I’m proud of them and we are ready for next week!”

The Trojans now head to the Division 2 district tournament at Montague High School. They will play Oakridge on Monday at 5:30 p.m., with the survivor advancing to Wednesday’s semifinal round.storageeddieminith brands
