Three Fruitport wrestlers each placed in the top four of their respective weight classes at Saturday’s individual regional tournament and qualified for the state finals.
Cooper Lengkeek (157 pounds) and Zach Aardema (120) both took third place while Ethan Riggs (215) took fourth.
All three will compete in the MHSAA Division 2 individual state finals on Feb. 28-March 1 at Detroit’s Ford Field.

Lengkeek, now 39-5 on the season, won his quarterfinal match, lost in the semifinals, won in the consolation semifinals, then edged out Greenville’s Chayson Eberspeaker 1-0 in the third-place match.
Aardema, 31-7, won in the quarterfinal round, lost in the semifinals, won in the consolation semifinals, then got a close win over Bay City John Glenn’s Jack Hayes in the third-place match, 5-4.

Riggs, 36-9, won his quarterfinal match, lost in the semifinals, won in the consolation semifinals, then lost a close one to Freeland’s Bringham Smith, 7-4, in the third place match.
Fruitport’s Davis Johnson (138), Alex Aardema (132) and Luke Westerlund (285) all went 1-2 on the day and failed to qualify for state.
Johnson finished the season with a 36-10 record, Alex Aardema closed out with a 30-15 mark, and Westerlund ended with a 27-13 record.
