The trophies keep rolling in for the Fruitport wrestling team.
After clinching the O-K Silver conference championship last week, the Trojans cruised to a pair of dual match victories on Wednesday and won their third consecutive Division 2 district championship in their own gym.
Fruitport defeated Coopersville 64-11 in the semifinal round, then rolled past Spring Lake 55-5 in the championship match.
The Trojans, 15-2 on the season, now move on to face Zeeland East next Wednesday in Division 2 regionals at 5:30 p.m. at home. The winner will wrestle the survivor of the Greenville-Allendale semifinal in the championship match.
“What an atmosphere,” said Fruitport Coach Chad Johnson about capturing the title in front of an excited home crowd. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to compete and to be able to share this with our community.
“I’m so proud of this team. We had a great week of practice preparing for this opportunity, and when the time came the team showed up ready to wrestle. It’s always a special accomplishment when you can say you are three-time district champs.”

Fruitport won seven matches in the semifinals against Coopersville.
