The Fruitport competitive cheer team will head into Division 2 districts on Saturday as two-time conference champions.
Last year the Trojans won the title in the O-K Blue conference, and this season they won the championship in the O-K Silver.
They clinched their latest championship on Feb. 5 at the final conference tournament at NorthPointe Christian High School.
The Trojans had a great performance, running away with first place with 757.40 points.
NorthPointe Christian was a distant second place with 708.54 while Comstock Park took third with 683.
Fruitport was on fire at the meet, breaking school scoring records for every round of the competition.
The Trojans had a 232.6 mark in Round 1 (execution), a 212 score in Round 2 (overall skills) and a 312 score in Round 3 (stunts).
Fruitport has a second-place finish on Feb. 3 at the Reeths-Puffer Invitational, totaling 739.64. Mona Shores took first place with 754.30.
The Trojans finished third at this week’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Meet with 740.90 points. Mona Shores was first with 763.34 and Reeths-Puffer was second with 752.84.
Now the Trojans are hoping to take their success into the state tournament and advance farther than last year, when they finished sixth in districts and failed to qualify for regionals.
“The team has fueled the fire this season,” said Fruitport Coach Saqora Conklin. “We are walking into districts this Saturday with fire in our hearts! We are so excited to see what this weekend holds for team 25!”
