The Fruitport boys basketball team is in a crowded battle for first place in the O-K Silver conference, following a disappointing 67-64 road loss the NorthPointe Christian on Friday.
The game was tight from start to finish, with the teams tied at 11-11 after one quarter, and NorthPointe leading 32-31 at halftime and 46-42 after three quarters.
The Trojans had a 22-21 edge in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t quite enough to make the difference.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Trojans, who are now 14-4 overall on the season and 8-2 in the O-K Silver.

“This was a well-played game by both teams,” said Fruitport head coach Steve Erny. “Credit to NorthPointe. They shot very well, especially from the perimeter, and we just couldn’t quite match it at the end. We will bounce back and be ready for next week.”
Dexter Lillmars paced Fruitport with 17 points, along with three steals and three assists. DayDay Williams added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Brody Hanson chipped in 10 points.
Hudson Hazekamp added seven points and seven rebounds while Grade Anspach had six points and four rebounds.
Fruitport is now tied for first place in the loss column with Godwin Heights, which is 7-2 in the O-K Silver standings. Calvin Christian is right behind them at 7-3.
The Trojans will host Godwin Heights on Tuesday and Calvin Christian next Friday in a pair of huge conference games.
