The Fruitport boys bowling team performed well at Wednesday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Tournament at Sherman Bowling Center, qualifying for the playoffs in the 10-team event and finishing in fourth place.

The Trojans finished fourth in the preliminary competition with a total score of 2,010. Reeths-Puffer was first, followed by Mona Shores and Montague.

All four teams made the head-to-head playoffs, and Fruitport lost to Reeths-Puffer in the semifinals.

Michael Hanson, who finished 10th individually and won a medal.

Fruitport’s Michael Hanson had the best day among the Trojans, bowling games of 201 and 169 for a 370 series and finishing 10th in the individual standings. He earned All-Tournament honors and won a medal.

Bradley Dekker finished in 12th place with a 359 series, followed by Corbin Judd (339, 15th), Keenan Camp (307, 28th) and Dylan Winskas (295, 31st).

“We are excited to finish in the top four at a very competitive tournament,” said Fruitport Coach Tim McKeeby.

The Fruitport girls team had a more difficult outing, finishing in ninth place in the preliminary rounds with 1,249 points.

Mya Herrygers, who had the best day among the Fruitport girls.

Mya Herrygers was the top Trojan, bowling a 240 series and finishing in 30th place. That was the best outing of her varsity career.

Fruitport’s other top bowlers were Kyleigh O’Connell, who rolled a 218 series and finished 37th, and Harper Simila, who had a 206 series and finished 38th.

“The improvement from last year’s GMAA to this year is tremendous,” McKeeby said. “Our girls team has a lot of potential.”

Both Fruitport teams will compete in Saturday’s O-K Silver conference postseason tournament, which will mark the end of the regular season.storageeddieminith brands
