The Fruitport boys basketball team has had to fight for many of its 14 victories so far this season, with a lot of wins coming by 10 points or less.
That was definitely not the case on Tuesday, when the red-hot Trojans went on the road and plowed past Hopkins 63-26 in an O-K Silver conference matchup.
Fruitport took control out of the gate, outscoring Hopkins 24-7 in the first quarter and leading 41-22 at halftime.
The Trojans topped things off with some great defense in the second half, holding Hopkins to just two points in both the third and fourth quarters.

“Tonight was a well-balanced team effort,” said Fruitport head coach Steve Erny. “We set the tone early on the defensive side of the ball and did not let up. We gave up only four points in the second half. Everyone played an important role in this game.”
DayDay Williams topped the Fruitport scoring chart with 17 points, Dexter Lillmars added 13 and Grade Anspach chipped in 11.
Six other Trojans also put points on the scoreboard.
Fruitport, which has won five straight games, is now 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the O-K Silver standings. They are in first place in the conference, one game ahead of Calvin Christian.
The Trojans will travel to NorthPointe Christian for another conference game on Friday.
