It’s really been a tale of two seasons for the Fruitport girls basketball team, and the trend is definitely in the positive direction.
The Trojans started out 0-8 and seemed headed for what might have been a very long season.
Since then, however, they have posted a very respectable 5-4 mark, with the latest victory coming on Friday night, 40-37 over NorthPointe Christian.
Fruitport is now 5-12 overall on the season, but 5-5 in the O-K Silver conference standings, which is good for fourth place, better than four other teams.
“It was a great road victory for us,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “The girls are improving every game and their work is showing through a little more often now in games.”

Sophomore standout Izzy Hanson-Wilbur led the way on Friday, scoring a career-high 20 points for the Trojans.
Fruitport trailed 10-8 after one quarter and 19-16 at halftime, then outscored NorthPointe 15-8 in the third quarter to take a 31-27 lead headed to the fourth.
The Trojans were outscored 10-9 in the final eight minutes, but played well enough to hang on for the win.
Lainey Bol added nine important points for Fruitport and Ava Powell finished with six, including an important three-pointer in the second quarter.
The Trojans will visit Godwin Heights on Tuesday in another O-K Silver conference game.
