The Fruitport girls basketball team fell behind early and never recovered on Tuesday in a 60-29 loss to Hopkins in O-K Silver conference action.

The Trojans fell behind 13-6 after one quarter, but then only scored two points in the second quarter and trailed 28-8 at halftime.

The offense was more productive in the second half, but Hopkins kept scoring, as well. The Vikings led 50-17 after three quarters, then coasted in the fourth.

Kenzie Pate, shown shooting in a previous game, led the Trojans with nine points.

Kenzie Pate led the Trojans with nine points, all on three-pointers.

“We struggled tonight defensively and offensively,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “We finally got Kenzie Pate going at the end and she hit three 3’s in a row.

“We continue to turn the ball over at a rapid rate, but I believe the girls are starting to see what works and what doesn’t. For as poor of a start that we have had, we are in high spirits because we know we are better than we have shown. There are a lot of areas that we need to improve on, for sure, and it starts with me as a coach. These girls don’t give up and they don’t quit.”

The Trojans, now 0-8 on the season, will host NorthPointe Christian on Friday in another conference matchup.th brandsstorageeddiemini
