It probably wasn’t the best week for the improving Fruitport girls basketball team to have limited practice time due to the weather.

That’s because the Trojans had to hit the road and face a very good Belding squad on Friday.

The Trojans did not fare well, falling behind early and losing 57-17 in an O-K Silver conference battle.

Fruitport trailed 17-5 after one quarter, 32-12 at halftime and 44-14 after three.

Kalli Tawney hit two three-pointers and was the Trojans’ leading scorer with six points.

“Belding was ultra efficient offensively and we were outgunned from the get go,” said Fruitport head coach Brian Packard. “Their deep shooting took our momentum right away and we weren’t able to get anything going. It’s been a weird week with no school and one practice, and so that definitely didn’t help. We had a couple bright spots, but overall a very tough night.”

The Trojans, who had two wins in their previous three games, fell to 2-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference standings. Belding is now 8-2 and 5-1.minith brandsstorageeddie
