The Fruitport competitive cheer team made it four first-place finishes in six meets this season by winning the Grand Rapids West Catholic Invitational on Saturday.
The Trojans won by a wide margin, totaling 735.7 points. Caledonia was second with 649 and Muskegon was third with 562.2.
Fruitport had a 225.1 score in Round 1 (execution), 226.1 in Round 2 (overall skills) and a 304.3 in Round 3 (stunts).
The total score 0of 735.7 was a new team record, along with the Round 2 score of 226.1.
“The team has had so much adjusting these last couple weeks, between injury and illness, and they’ve had to overcome a lot of obstacles, but their hard work is paying off!” said Fruitport Coach Saqora Conklin.
Conklin recognized junior Callie O’Neal for being “A very adaptable athlete. Whenever I need her I know I can count on her to learn any spot at any time.”
She also recognized senior Julia Smith, saying “She’s very coachable when it comes to corrections, and performed beautifully on Saturday.”
The Trojans will compete again on Wednesday at Kelloggsville in the second O-K Silver conference meet of the season.
