Of all the victories the Fruitport boys basketball team has collected this season, Tuesday’s may have been the most impressive.
The Trojans had a very tough second quarter and trailed by 12 points at halftime in a non-conference matchup at Newaygo.
But Fruitport exploded in the second half, outscoring the Lions by 22 points in the third quarter and cruising to an 83-73 victory.
The Trojans had four players in double figures – Dexter Lillmars with 24 points, DayDay Williams with 19, Hudson Hazekamp with 13 and Grade Anspach with 12.

The 83-point performance was Fruitport’s biggest offensive output of the season.
The Trojans improved to 11-3 while Newaygo fell to 5-8.
“I’m proud of the way the boys responded after halftime,” said Fruitport head coach Steve Erny. “Newaygo played well and shot the lights out. We will take some important lessons from this game, and look forward to finishing strong down the home stretch of the season.”
The first quarter was pretty even, with Newaygo leading 20-17 at the buzzer.

The Lions caught fire in the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 26-17 to take a 46-34 lead into the break.
Fruitport wasted no time in the third quarter, erasing its deficit in the first four minutes, outscoring Newaygo 30-8 and taking a 64-54 lead into the fourth.
Each team scored 19 points in the final eight minutes.
The Trojans will host Comstock Park in an O-K Silver conference matchup on Friday.
