The Fruitport boys basketball team has been soaring lately, but the Trojans’ five-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night.
They traveled to Calvin Christian for a battle for first place in the O-K Silver conference and came home with a tough 64-48 loss.
Fruitport started out well enough, building a 16-12 lead after one quarter.
But then Calvin Christian came alive, outscoring the Trojans 21-8 in the second quarter to take a 33-24 lead into halftime.
That trend continued in the third quarter, with Calvin outscoring Fruitport 18-10 and leading 51-34 headed into the fourth.

The Trojans had a 14-13 edge in the final eight minutes, but it wasn’t enough.
“We were not at our best tonight,” said Fruitport head coach Steve Erny. “The second quarter was the big difference in the game, as we struggled on both ends during that frame. We will bounce back and learn from some of our mistakes as we go forward.”
Dexter Lillmars paced the Trojans with 17 points while DayDay Williams tossed in 11.
Fruitport is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference standings. Calvin Christian is now in first place alone with a 5-0 league mark.
The Trojans will host Kelloggsville on Tuesday. [3]
