The Fruitport wrestling team had a great night on Wednesday, winning two dual matches and gaining its first conference victory of the season.

The Trojans romped to a 62-15 win over Belding in its very first O-K Silver conference match. Fruitport switched from the O-K Blue to the Silver during the offseason.

Winning by pin for Fruitport were Kayden Barnes (106 pounds), Phillip Stone-Tyler (120), Alex Aardema (138), Davis Johnson (144), Cooper Lengkeek (150) and Luke Westerlund (285).

Zach Aardema (132) and Kalen Stonex (165) both won by technical fall and Ethan Riggs (215) won by major decision.

The Trojans had a much easier time against Mason County Eastern in a non-conference match, winning 78-4.

Fruitport won 11 of the 14 matches by forfeit.

Lengkeek and Jayden Perry (285) both won their matches by pin for the Trojans.

“We put together a couple great team wins tonight,” said Fruitport Coach Chad Johnson. “We made it a priority to make a statement starting off our conference schedule, and the team came together and answered the call. The kids are all in and are never satisfied, always looking for opportunities to improve.”

The Trojans will compete at Gull Lake on Saturday.eddie [3] [4]th brands [5] [6]storage [7]mini [8]
