The Fruitport girls basketball team played pretty evenly with a good Ravenna squad on Tuesday, at least for three quarters.

But a bad first quarter ended up costing the Trojans in a 63-49 loss at home in non-conference action.

Ravenna jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter, then outscored Fruitport 17-12 in the second and had a 35-21 advantage at halftime.

The Trojans had an 18-14 edge in the third quarter but were not able to claw their way back into the game.

“We played a good game,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “Ravenna had two post players we had trouble guarding. We were able to speed the game up and get back in it, but just couldn’t get on top.

“These girls always give everything. Effort is never a problem.”

Izzy Hanson-Wilbur finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and five steals for Fruitport.

Lainey Bol added 10 points and Alexa Sweet had eight.

The Trojans, now 0-4, will visit Western Michigan Christian on Thursday.storageeddieth brandsmini
