In his third year of varsity basketball, Fruitport junior DayDay Williams is starting to demonstrate all the skills he’s been developing for the past few years.
Williams, a speedy guard with a talent for driving to the rim, had a great all-around night on Wednesday, scoring 23 points, grabbing nine rebounds while adding five assists and four steals.
His efforts helped the Trojans post an impressive 62-43 victory over Montague on the road in a non-conference game.
The contest was close early, with the score tied 13-13 after one quarter. Then the Trojans took over, outscoring the Wildcats 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 32-17 halftime lead.

Fruitport had a 17-13 edge in the third quarter, then cruised to the win.
“After a sluggish start, I thought we were able to turn it around tonight,” said Fruitport Coach Steve Erny. “We were able to get to the basket and also shot efficiently from the perimeter. DayDay played a very good all-around game tonight, not only scoring but rebounding and distributing the ball to others.”
Freshman Dexter Lillmars added 15 points with four rebounds and three assists for Fruitport while Hudson Hazekamp had 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Trojans, now 3-1 on the season, will host rival Spring Lake on Friday night. [3]
