There’s no doubt about it, the Fruitport boys tennis team is starting to find its footing.

Last week the Trojans beat Hopkins in the team’s first dual match victory since 2019.

On Monday they followed up with a loss, but one of their closer ones of the season, falling 5-3 to Cedar Springs in non-conference action.

Remy Parker, who won at No. 2 singles

The Trojans won two flights in singles and one in doubles.

Remy Parker (No. 2 singles) cruised past Cedar Springs’ Heath Malon 6-1, 6-0. Eli Puls (No. 3 singles) also had an easy time, beating Gabe Griffey 6-1, 6-0.

Fruitport’s No. 1 doubles team of Shane Brosnan and Tommy Anderson also checked into the victory column, downing Aaron Beckett and Gage Cassidy 7-6, 6-4.

Eli Puls, who won at No. 3 singles.

The Trojans might have earned a tie if one close match had gone the other way.

Fruitport’s Hayden Zimmer put up a fight at No. 4 singles before falling to Mason Rop 7-5, 6-4.

“It was a close match that could have been different,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher. “Our two winning singles flights really dominated play, not allowing much from their opponents for the entirety of the match.

Shane Brosnan, who teamed with Tommy Anderson to win at No. 1 doubles.

“Our one doubles team had a battle all match long and seem to win the critical points, including the first set by a tiebreaker.

“Hayden Zimmer at four singles continues to improve and barely lost his sets. Our other flights showed good fight in many of the games, which went to deuce many times.”ministorageth brandseddie
