The Fruitport girls golf team is coming together quickly, which is a pleasant surprise considering that many of the players are in their first season.
The upstart Trojans turned heads on Wednesday by finishing in second place in the first O-K Silver conference meet of the season.
Fruitport finished with 201 team points, behind first-place NorthPointe Christian, which had 164.
The 201 was the best Fruitport girls team score in three seasons.

Standout Mylee Mineni didn’t surprise anyone with another strong finish, taking fourth place in the individual standings with a 39 score.
But other Trojans did surprisingly well.
Maddie Anderson finished in 11th place with a 49 and McKenzie Beardsley took 16th with a 55.
Lainey Bol and Kendall Lee each shot a 59 and Tatum Anderson scored a 64.

“The girls are feeling more comfortable and confident in their game as the season goes on,” said Fruitport Coach Brenda Hansen. “They are starting to recognize what parts of their game we need to work on at our next practice and they vocalize it.
“The two girls back from last season have shown lots of improvement, and the new girls on the team are very athletic and are like sponges absorbing all the new information to improve their games.
“These girls have been a lot of fun to work with this season!”
