The Fruitport girls golf team has demonstrated that it can be surprisingly competitive this season, despite having a lot of inexperienced players.
But there are always ups and downs, particularly for beginners, and the Trojans ran into some tough going in their last two matches.
They finished at the bottom of the 15-team standings at last Friday’s Greenville Invitational at Cedar Chase Golf Course, one of the longer courses they have played on this season.
Senior standout Mylee Mineni shot 103 and finished 32nd in the large field of competitors. McKenzie Beardsley shot a 118 and finished 63rd and Maddie Anderson shot a `133 and finished 79th.
The Trojans continued to struggle on Wednesday at the latest O-K Silver conference jamboree, played at Scott Lake Golf Course.
The finished fifth with 222 points, behind Belding, which came in at 213, NorthPointe Christian won the event with a 173.
Mineni had a good day, shooting 47 and finishing fifth in the individual standings. Anderson shot a 51 and took 15th place while Kenzie Pate shot 61 and finished 23rd.
“The girls are continuing to work on their game and apply what we do in practice to the course,” said Fruitport Coach Brenda Hansen.
