Remy Parker’s first varsity tennis victory was a long time coming and dominant.

Last year Parker was a freshman playing near the top of the Trojans’ lineup, which was a tall order for a first-year varsity player.

He took his lumps and went winless, but that ended on Tuesday in Fruitport’s first match of the season.

Parker earned his first win by beating Western Michigan Christian’s Levi Dutton 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match of a dual meet between the schools.

“Remy played a controlled match and executed well,” said Fruitport coach Brad Busscher.

The rest of the day didn’t go so well for Fruitport, which lost to WMC 7-1. The Warriors won five of the six matches, then won by forfeit in No. 3 and No. 4 doubles because the Trojans lack a full lineup this fall.

There were a few other bright spots for Fruitport. Eli Puls won four games in the first set and three in the second before dropping a tough match to WMC’s Derek VanderWall. The Trojan No. 2 doubles team of Kaleb Brege and Bryce Baugh won three games in their match.
