After a sluggish start to its season last weekend, the Fruitport volleyball team found its game in a big way on Wednesday, winning all three of its matches at Reeths-Puffer High School.
The Trojans fell way behind Reeths-Puffer in their first match, but dashed back to win the first set 27-25, then ran away with the second set, 25-14.
The going got easier for the Trojans in their next two matches. They sailed past Ravenna 25-5, 25-14 then swept Ludington, 25-17, 25-12.
“We have been looking for that positive turn on the season, working so hard to learn to win, to learn to push when we are struggling, and tonight we were able to do that,” said Fruitport coach Nicole Bayle.
“In the first set against R-P we were down 10-20 and were able to come back, gain confidence, chip away, and come home with that victory After that comeback, we cruised along with confidence and were in control of the matches we played in.
“I am hoping this is our turning point in this season where we start to learn what this group of kids is capable of!”
Sadie Haase paced Fruitport with 22 kills while Izabel Hanson-Wilbur and Ellie Stroup added 13 and 11, respectively.
Gracelynn Olson guided the offense with 54 assists and Tara Sweet served eight aces.
Defensively, Hanson-Wilbur and Stroup each had 16 digs.
Fruitport is now 4-3 on the season.
