Fruitport soccer team opens season by claiming two victories on a long road trip to Petoskey

The Fruitport boys soccer team started the season off with two victories at a multi-team event in Petoskey on Friday.

Fruitport defeated Petoskey 3-0 in Game 1 before defeating Haslett 2-1 in Game 2.

Jorge Burgos Yack opened the Fruitport scoring in the first game when he netted a rebound to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Later In the first half, Isaac Vandermolen assisted Davis Johnson, who headed in a goal to give Fruitport a 2-0 lead.

The Trojan scoring was capped off by Vandermolen, who buried a free kick to cap off the 3-0 victory.

In Game 2, Jayden Booker started the scoring off a deflection early in the game to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Burgos Yack then netted a set piece to give Fruitport a 2-0 lead before halftime, which ultimately was enough to provide the victory. [2]

“I really liked our work rate and focus,” said Fruitport coach Dan Hazekamp about starting the season 2-0. “Having to go on the road and play back-to-back was a good challenge for us early in the season. I thought our depth was really a factor in getting two wins.”
