Fruitport’s Macen Benderman shot a one-under-par 37 on Friday to finish in a tie for seventh place individually at the O-K Blue Conference Jamboree at Western Green Golf Course in Coopersville.

It was the best round by a Trojan golfer this season. Unity Christian’s Colin Niewenhuis shot a 32 to win the event.

“It was great to see Macen come out and shoot a great round,” said Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory. “He had one bad hole on the day, but bounced right back and got a par on the next hole.

“A year or two ago that one hole might have caused him to come undone. Today, he shrugged it off. That growth in him is fun to see. If we can ever get four players to play well on the same day, it would be fun to see what we could do.”

Fruitport finished in sixth place as a team with a score of 170. Unity Christian took first place with a 147.

Chase Sullivan shot a 41 for the Trojans, followed by Tyler Carlson and Cole Woodards (46).

The Trojans will compete in the Hillsdale Invitational at Grand Valley State University on Wednesday.eddie
