The Fruitport softball team continued its mastery of non-conference opponents with a pair of wins over Montague on Thursday.

Fruitport is now 5-2 in its last seven games, with all five wins coming against opponents outside of the O-K Blue conference. The two losses earlier this week were against conference foe Hudsonville Unity Christian.

The Trojans won the opener 16-8. Fruitport led 11-8 in the sixth inning, then sealed the victory with five runs. The big hits in the inning were doubles by Maddie Prout and Kya Tawney and a single by Maddie Kohnke.

Tawney led the offense with three hits while Prout finished with two. Brooklynn Russell was the winning pitcher.

The Trojans completed the sweep with a 12-2 win in the nightcap.

They took control with eight runs in the second inning. Kya Tawney had two RBIs in the inning in separate plate appearances while Russell, Ashton Olson, Kendall Lee, Kalli Tawney and Maddie Prout each knocked in one.

Russell got another win on the mound in Game 2.

The Trojans will next compete in Saturday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament.eddie
