The goal of every team is to be playing well as the postseason arrives, and the Fruitport softball team has certainly checked that box.

The Trojans have won seven of their last nine games, following big victories over Fremont on Tuesday and North Muskegon on Wednesday.

Fruitport downed Fremont 10-1. The Trojans scored one run in the first inning and three in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Madyson Prout had five singles while Kya Tawney and Maddy Kohnke each had three hits.

Brooklynn Russell pitched the win, striking out nine and walking only one.

The Trojans continued their success by beating North Muskegon 20-7.

They trailed the Norse 7-2 after four innings, then exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning, four more in the sixth and six more in the seventh.

Prout had another big game with four hits. Kya Tawney and Brylee DeWitt also had four hits while Kohnke added three.

Ash Olson had a three-run single.

Kohnke pitched the win for Fruitport.

The Trojans will now move on to Saturday’s Division 2 district tournament at Oakridge. They will play Whitehall at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to the finals in the afternoon.eddie
