The Fruitport boys golf team finished its season with a 10th place finish on Tuesday at a Division 2 regional tournament hosted by Cedar Springs High School.

The Trojans shot a team score of 437. Forest Hills Eastern won the 19-team event with a 303.

Tyler Carlson had his best round of the season and led the Trojans with an 81 round. He shot under one par on the back nine and finished in 24th place in the individual standings.

Chase Sullivan shot an 85 for the Trojans, followed by Macen Benderman (89), Andres Cribley-Cotto (92) and Cole Woodard (93).

“It wasn’t the end of the season we hoped for as a team, but our guys played hard all day,” said Fruitport Coach Aaron Gregory. “Tyler played his best round of the year at the right time. It was more impressive with the fact he had a triple bogey and double bogey on the front nine.

“This was a season filled with ‘what-ifs.’ I will be sad to see Macen and Andres graduate, as they brought really good leadership to our team. I am hopeful that next year’s team will improve from this year. Each year since I have started coaching our team has gotten better at the regional. We hope that trend continues next year.”  eddie
