After sweeping Greenville in a doubleheader on Thursday, the Fruitport softball team kept rolling by winning two more games on Saturday and winning the championship in the Mona Shores Invitational.

The Trojans opened the tournament by bashing their way to an 18-3 victory over Whitehall in three innings.

Ashton Olson led the offensive attack with two hits, including a home run in the third inning. Brooklyn Russell also homered in the third.

Kendall Lee: 4 hits in Game 2.

Marlee Veltman was the winning pitcher. The Fruitport defense was strong, highlighted b third baseman Kalli Tawney snagging a line drive then picking a runner off first base to end an inning.

Fruitport was equally dominant in the championship game, beating Montague 13-2.

Ashton Olson: 2 hits, including a homer, in Game 1.

Kendall Lee led the offense with four hits while Brylee DeWitt and Olson both had two.

Russell pitched the win with six strikeouts and strong defense behind her.

“The Trojans made quick work of their opponents today and it was prom night,” said Fruitport Coach Bob Dorman. “The girls didn’t want to be late for their dates and they weren’t!”
