The Fruitport softball team got the bats cranking on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Whitehall.

The Trojans banged out 18 hits in a 13-9 victory in Game 1.

Fruitport scored four times in the first inning and four more times in the fifth.

Brylee Dewitt had four hits for Fruitport. Kendall Lee and Ashton Olson each drove in three runs.

Brooklyn Russell pitched the victory, striking out five and walking two. Maddy Kohnke earned a save on the mound.

Fruitport followed that up with a 16-1 victory in four innings. The blowout was propelled by an 11-run second inning that featured a two-run homer by Kya Tawney.

Five more runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning.  Russell accounted for three of those runs with a homer.

Fruitport totaled 11 hits. Tawney and DeWitt each had two hits while Tawney and Russell each drove in three runs.

Kohnke pitched the victory, allowing three hits and one run over four innings.

The Trojans, now 3-3 on the season, will host Holton in another non-conference game on Friday.
