The Fruitport baseball team is off to a 2-1 start to the season after securing a victory in the completion of one game on Wednesday, then dropping one game.

The Trojans were tied with Hamilton 4-4 on Tuesday when the game was called after five innings due to darkness.

The game resumed on Wednesday and Fruitport outscored the Hawkeyes 4-0 to take an 8-4 victory.

Thomas Anderson took the mound for Fruitport for the final two innings and allowed just one hit and one walk.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Bosch led off with a single before Brady French doubled. Braxton Ward then delivered an RBI hit to give the Trojans a 5-4 lead.

Avery Lambers followed up with an RBI sacrifice fly before Jaxon Stone added an RBI single.

Trevor Rusnak, Lambers, Ward and French led Fruitport with multiple hits.

In Wednesday’s full game, the Trojans were down 6-4 before a seventh inning rally tied the game at 6-6.

In the home half of the inning, Hamilton scored a run to walk-off the game 7-6.

Lambers, Rusnak, Ward and French all had multiple hits, helping Fruitport outhit Hamilton 13-9.

Bosch pitched three innings while Hudson Hazekamp came on in relief and struck out two over 2 1/3 innings.

The Trojans will travel to Sparta on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader.eddie
