The Fruitport girls basketball team succumbed to an aerial attack from Holland Christian on Tuesday night.

The Maroons poured in nine three-pointers and beat the Trojans 57-33 in O-K Blue conference play.

Fruitport only trailed 14-11 after one quarter but fell behind 33-18 at halftime and 49-24 headed into the fourth.

“We were down a few players with injuries tonight, but it gave our bench a chance to see some more meaningful minutes,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “We played hard, we always do, but we have started to play in a way that the things we work on in practice are starting to poke through.

Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, who scored 15 points for the Trojans.

“I’m proud of these girls. We ask them to come out every game day against a team that generally is much taller across the board and we ask them to compete. Holland Christian hit nine 3’s. It’s tough to guard a team that can stretch you out offensively like that. We outrebounded them as a team, though, and we never stopped playing.”

Freshman Izzy Hanson-Wilbur led Fruitport with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals. Ashton Olson added 13 points and five rebounds, Jorja Blackmer had four rebounds and three assists and Rhiannon Raleigh snagged six rebounds.

The Trojans are now 5-10 overall and 0-9 in conference play. Holland Christian improved to 12-3 and 7-2.eddie
