The Fruitport girls basketball team is continuing to battle through the minefield of tough O-K Blue conference competition.

The Trojans fought hard for three quarters on Thursday but ultimately fell to Allendale 44-28.

Fruitport led 8-7 after one quarter and trailed 19-15 at halftime and 25-18 after three quarters.

Allendale nailed down the win by scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 from the line.

The competitive game was encouraging for the Trojans, who are still looking for their first conference win as the regular season nears the end.

Fruitport’s Ashton Olson, who had six points and four rebounds.

“We played one of our best games of the year,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “We battled every minute. The end score doesn’t reflect how we played. We fouled down the stretch to extend the game and they didn’t miss.

“We are disappointed in the loss but happy with how we played.”

Izzy Hanson-Wilbur scored a game-high 14 points for the Trojans. Ashton Olson added six points and four rebounds while Mackenzie Beardsley had nine rebounds.

Fruitport, now 5-13 overall and 0-12 in conference, will visit Grand Rapids West Catholic on Tuesday and host Hamilton next Friday.eddie
