The Fruitport boys basketball team had a pretty bad second quarter, but still managed to fight back and make the score respectable on Thursday in a 56-46 loss to Allendale in O-K Blue conference action.

The Trojans trailed 10-6 after one quarter, then were outscored 17-2 in the second and went to halftime trailing 27-8.

They played much better in the second half, scoring 21 points in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Fruitport’s DayDay Williams

DayDay Williams continued his recent hot scoring streak with 20 points for Fruitport. Grade Anspach and Ryan Bosch each added six points.

“Too many mistakes, especially in the second quarter, put us in too much of a hole,” said Fruitport Coach Steve Erny. “We fought back in the second half and showed toughness and resolve.”

The Trojans, now 4-16 overall and 0-12 in conference play, will finish the regular season with home games against Grand Rapids West Catholic next Tuesday and Hamilton a week from Friday.eddie
