Fruitport wrestler Davis Johnson was in top form on Saturday at Montague High School, defeating all five of his opponents at the Randy Jacobs Memorial Duals.

Johnson helped the Trojans post a nice 3-2 record against very good competition.

The Trojans opened with a tough 39-36 loss to Montague, then recovered with three straight victories, 38-24 over Plan B (a team of wrestlers from various schools), 38-36 over Schoolcraft and 51-30 over Northview.

Fruitport ended the day with a tough 40-30 loss to Spring Lake.

Johnson was dominant all day long at 132 pounds, beating Montague’s Kaiden Jeffery 10-4, Plan B’s Melvin Carter 16-0, Schoolcraft’s Tristan VanCleave by pin, Northview’s John Wolever 6-2 and Spring Lake’s Jason Liu by pin.

Fruitport’s Kyle Holt (120 pounds) went 4-0, pinning Montague’s Benjamin Hayes, Schoolcraft’s Gerrin Kinkela, Northview’s Ezra Cole and Spring Lake’s Branxton Tilma.

Zach Aardema (113 pounds) won three matches without a loss, pinning Schoolcraft’s Garrett Randle, Northview’s Xavier Longoria and Spring Lake’s William Mastenbrook.

Joey Witherspoon (138 pounds) and Cooper Lengkeek (150) each went 4-1, with their only losses coming in close overtime matches.

Witherspoon pinned Montague’s Christopher Evans, Plan B’s Drew Babinec and Northview’s Aiden Misner and beat Schoolcraft’s Beckett Boyes 15-0.

Lengkeek pinned Montague’s Ethan Lundy and Northville’s Owen Neville, then beat Plan B’s Cody Priest 15-0 and Schoolcraft’s Kolby Lloyd 3-0.eddie
