The Fruitport wrestling team had a good night on Wednesday, picking up a conference victory over Hudsonville Unity Christian and putting up a good fight before falling to a very strong Holland squad.

The Trojans downed Unity Christian 54-23 in an O-K Blue conference dual match.

Xavier Kelly (175 pounds), Ryder Chan (106), Zach Aardema (113), Joey Witherspoon (138), Blair Zimmer (144) and Cooper Lengkeek (150) all won their matches for Fruitport.

All six of them pinned their opponents to run up the Trojans’ team score.

Things got more difficult for Fruitport against Holland, an O-K Green conference power. The Trojans lost 45-30.

Chan (106), Aardema (113), Lengkeek (157) and Kyle Holt (126) won matches for the Trojans. Chan and Lengkeek posted their second pins of the evening.

The Trojans will return to action on Saturday in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament at Muskegon High School.

“A couple good duals for us tonight,” said Fruitport head coach Chad Johnson. “We had a good week of practice and we’ve been working hard on making a few adjustments. We’re looking forward to the city tournament this weekend. It’s always a big tournament circled on our calendar.”
