The Fruitport girls basketball team is still looking for its first conference victory of the season after falling to Grand Rapids West Catholic 52-19 on Tuesday night.

The Trojans were doomed by a bad first quarter, when they were outscored 19-2. They trailed 25-11 at halftime and 36-14 after three quarters.

Fruitport is now 5-6 overall on the season and O-5 in the O-K Blue conference standings.

“We actually played a pretty good game all around,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “We handled their pressure well at times and not so well at times. We had set some goals before the game as to what we were trying to accomplish. We didn’t hit them all, but we had something to work toward.

“I believe the girls are locked in and still hungry to get that first conference win. It will happen – it’s not if but when for us.”
