The Fruitport girls basketball team fell 65-42 at home to O-K Blue Conference opponent Holland Christian on Tuesday night.

The Trojans fell behind 26-11 after one quarter but rebounded strongly in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 28-23 at halftime.

“We played the best quarter we’ve played all year,” said Trojans head coach Brian Packard about the second quarter, in which Fruitport held a 12-2 advantage. “If we can build off that and put four quarters together, we’ll be in great shape.”

In the third quarter, Fruitport fell behind 51-32 before ultimately losing 65-42.

Freshman Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, who led the Trojans with 19 points. 

Izzy Hanson-Wilbur led the Trojans with 19 points and four steals on the night while Ashton Olson chipped in 14 points.

Jorja Blackmer had six assists for Fruitport.

“These girls are playing for each other,” Packard said about team morale. “Even the girls that don’t get to see the floor much are talking and cheering. They’re bringing much-needed energy and I’m very proud of the girls.”

Fruitport is now 5-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. They Trojans will host Hudsonville Unity Christian on Friday.eddie
