Two weeks ago, in the first O-K Blue conference meet of the season, the Fruitport competitive cheer team inched past Grand Rapids West Catholic for first place.

The score was 673.34-671.78.

On Wednesday the Trojans were more dominant, winning the second conference meet of the season far more handily. Fruitport finished with a final score of 702.94, well ahead of West Catholic (670.60) and third-place Hamilton (634.20).

The Trojans scored 219.80 in Round 1 (execution), 192.44 in Round 2 (overall skills) and 290.70 in Round 3 (stunts).

The victory made the Trojans 5-for-5 on the season – five meets and five first-place finishes.

Coach Saqora Conklin said the team has been extra focused on details, which explains the bigger margin of victory on Wednesday.

“We made a few errors in the last conference competition, so we were determined to fix those and come back stronger,” she said. “The team spent all of last week drilling on the little things so they could come out cleaner than the week before.

“The girls are seeing new things in themselves and each other that they are focusing on to grow. I have a very determined group of ladies who are ready for whatever comes their way.

“They want it more than ever and they are trying to prove that! I am so proud to be their coach! They are doing big things for Fruitport cheer!”
