From a dual match perspective, the Fruitport wrestling team did not have a terrific day at the Greenville Invitational on
Saturday, posting a 1-4 record.

But from an individual perspective, the Trojans showed a great deal of strength, with three wrestlers winning all five of their matches, and another two winning four of five.

Ryder Chan

In the team competition, the Trojans downed Caledonia 60-24, while losing to Belding, Greenville, Petoskey and Hastings.

Fruitport’s Ryder Chan, competing at 106 pounds, posted a perfect 5-0 record, with four of his victories coming on pins, two of those in less than a minute.

Davis Johnson

Davis Johnson, wrestling at 126 pounds, also went 5-0, with two wins coming by pin and one by a major decision score of 14-3.

Kyle Holt (132) was the third Trojan to go 5-0, with three wins coming by pin.

Zack Aardema and Cooper Lengkeek both posted 4-1 records.

Kyle Holt

“It was a great day of competition for the team,” said Fruitport Coach Chad Johnson. “It’s something we strive for, to wrestle elite competition to prepare for the postseason. We were able to see where we are individually and address where we need to get better.” eddie
