The Fruitport girls basketball team suffered their first loss of the season – just barely – on Tuesday.
The Trojans played Whitehall down to the wire on the road in a non-conference game and lost 39-38.
Fruitport is now 3-1 on the season.
The Trojans trailed by five points after one quarter and the game was tied 15-15 at halftime.
Whitehall took the lead for good with a three-pointer with about two minutes left in the game. Fruitport hit a triple with seconds left to pull within one, but that’s as close as the Trojans could get.
“We played our hearts out and came up short,” said Fruitport Coach Brian Packard. “Our defense was still solid, but we gave up a tone of offensive rebounds.”
Izzy Hanson Wilbur let the Trojans with 13 points, four rebounds and two steals. Grace Sweet added nine points and had four steals while Ashton Olson had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals.
Rhiannon Raleigh chipped in four rebounds and five steals for Fruitport.
