The Fruitport bowling teams opened the season with losses against O-K Blue conference rival Hudsonville Unity Christian on Wednesday.

The boys team lost a tough match, 17-13.

The Trojans got off to a good start by sweeping both baker games, but did not fare as well in head-to-head or series competition.

Shane Brosnan led the Trojans with a 342 series, Bradon Krohn bowled a 326 series and freshman Bradley Dekker rolled a 306 series.

“Starting the season with a loss is not ideal, but our team is ready to work hard in practice and correct our mistakes,” said Fruitport Coach Tim McKeeby. “I am proud of our team for fighting to the very end and doing their best to pick up spares.”

The girls team had a more difficult time, falling to Unity Christian 30-0.

Kadie Juska led the girls with a 203 series, Harper Similia rolled a 193 series and Kaylynn Pavlige, who just joined the team this week, had a 192 series.

“All five bowlers on the floor tonight never rolled in a varsity bowling match before, yet they showed great promise,” McKeeby said. “The positive energy was great to see, especially during a tough loss.

“I am excited to see where this team can go. Five out of our six girls are brand new to bowling and determined to do their best.”eddie
