The Fruitport-Spring Lake rivalry has spread to the bowling lanes.
Spring Lake, the Trojans’ archrival in all sports, added boys and girls varsity bowling this season.
The two programs went-head-to-head for the first time on Monday, with Fruitport winning the boys match 24-6 but losing the girls match 17-13.

“After dropping the first baker game, our team found its groove,” said Fruitport Coach Tim McKeeby. “Everyone was determined to close frames and win their match. We are excited to get our first win of the season against a promising Spring Lake team.”
In the girls match, Fruitport junior Kadie Juska led the team with a 221 series while Reba Willis rolled a 220 series.
[2]“We started off strong by winning the first baker game,” McKeeby said. “The tide turned in the second baker game and first singles game. However, our team bounced back in the second singles game and were fighting hard for a win. Unfortunately, we came up short.
“I am proud of our team for staging a great rally in the second individual game and doing their best.”
The Fruitport boys also competed in the O-K Blue preseason conference tournament on Friday, finishing in third place with a pin total of 2,601. Bradon Krohn led the team with a 489 series and Michael Hanson finished with a 434 series.
