Freshman Hudson Hazekamp scores 15 points, Fruitport boys rebound with a 49-38 win over Fremont

This time the Fruitport boys basketball team got off to a good start and kept it going.

On Tuesday the Trojans jumped out to an early 13-0 lead but ended up falling to Montague.

On Thursday they came out strong on the road against Fremont and ended up cruising to a 49-38 non-conference victory.

The Trojans led 12-9 after one quarter, 26-18 at halftime and 40-29 headed into the fourth.

Fruitport improved to 2-2 on the season.

“We got off to a solid start, but the difference today was we were able to sustain it and stay pretty solid throughout the game,” said Fruitport head coach Steve Erny. “This group has taken some of the early losses and learned from them, and I like the direction we are heading.”

Freshman Hudson Hazekamp led the Trojans with 15 points, including four three-pointers.

Ryan Bosch added 14 points, DayDay Williams had nine and Kyle Burke scored eight.

Fruitport will visit Comstock Park on Tuesday in another non-conference matchup.eddie [2] [3]
