Fruitport wrestler Cooper Lengkeek posted a 3-1 record on Saturday and finished second in his weight class, leading the Trojans to a strong seventh-place finish among 18 teams at the Mark Bosse Memorial Invitational tournament at Hart High School.

Fruitport finished with 81 points, just one behind sixth-place Grant and 10 points ahead of eighth-place Mason County Central. Whitehall won the championship with 269 points.

Lengkeek, wrestling at 150 pounds, had a great day, winning his first three matches and scoring 20 team points for the Trojans.

He received a bye in the first round, defeated Three Rivers’ Evan Her 10-4 in the second round and pinned Mona Shores’ Brody Faught in 2:29 in the semifinal round.

He came up short in the championship match, losing to Whitehall’s Ryne Christenson.

Also performing well for Fruitport were Kyle Holt (132 pounds), who went 2-2, finished fourth in his weight class and scored 13 team points; Jayden Perry (285 pounds), who went 3-2, finished sixth and scored 13 team points; Blair Zimmer (144 pounds), who lost his first match but won his next four, finished fifth and scored 10 team points; and Phillip Stone-Tyler (120 pounds), who went 3-2, placed sixth and scored eight team points.eddie
