The Fruitport volleyball team, which has talent but has been struggling in the brutally tough O-K Blue conference, had a good showing at Saturday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Meet at Mona Shores High School.

The Trojans posted a 2-1 record and finished third in the tournament.

Fruitport gained both of its victories in straight sets, 25-12, 25-12 over Oakridge and 26-24, 25-21 in a very tough match with North Muskegon.

The Trojans fell to Montague, 25-20, 25-20 in the tournament semifinals.

Fruitport’s Sadie Haase, who had a strong performance both offensive and defensively at the city meet.

“The girls came out focused and ready to play tough on Saturday,” said Fruitport Coach Nicole Bayle. “Of course we were disappointed not to be in the final, but Montague played well and gave us some fits in our semifinal match.

“This group of ladies keeps growing and evolving. I have to keep reminding myself of the youth on our roster and continue to just focus on our growth as a team and not always the wins and losses.”

Sadie Haase paced the Trojan attack with 24 kills, followed by Izabel Hanson-Wilbur with 11 and Ash Olson with 10.

Gracelynn Olson had 53 assists while Emma Fecher served five aces and Haase added three.

Defensively, Haase totaled 31 digs, Fecher had 21 and Ellie Stroup had 19.

Emma Danicek and Haase had four and three blocks, respectively.

Fruitport, now 13-22 on the season, will host Spring Lake on Tuesday in a conference match.eddie
