The Fruitport boys cross country team had a pretty good outing on Saturday, landing one runner in the top 10 and all five runners in the top half of the standings at the Hill and Bale Invitational at Fremont Middle School.
The Hill and Bale is a unique annual run, with hay bales placed at spots along the course that the runners have to jump over, creating an extra challenging race and slower than average times for competitors.
Fruitport’s Vincent Pollock finished seventh in the individual standings with a time of 17:40.74.

Ethan Horan took 16th place at 18:36.81, Levi Bol was 18th with a mark of 18:53.54, Landon Johnson had the same time as Bol, and Levi Glynn was 22nd at 19:10.21.
As a team the Trojans finished fourth out of five teams in the Red Division with a score of 80. Allendale took first place with a score of 35.
Fruitport coach Randy Johnson was pleased with his runners’ effort against the tough competition, noting that “they all ran close to a minute faster than they did in this race the year before.”
