Fruitport’s Mylee Mineni is starting to heat up for the Fruitport girls golf team.

On Wednesday she shot an 18-hole score of 94 and finished in a very respectable 15th place against a strong field of competitors at the Whitehall Invitational.

On Thursday Mineni did even better, shotting a nine-hole score of 46 and tying for 11th place at the Allendale Invitational.

Mineni missed winning a medal at the Allendale event by one stroke.

“She played well,” said Fruitport coach Brenda Hansen. “She didn’t allow an undesirable hit or putt to get her down and played each hole one stroke at a time.”

The Trojans competed in both events with only three players while they wait for a fourth to rejoin the team next week. That means they didn’t qualify for the final team standings at either tournament, but the three Trojans all made progress in their games.

At the Whitehall event, Colby Thurston shot a 138 and Tatum Anderson shot a 150.

At Allendale, Anderson had a score of 64 and Thurston shot a 65.

The Allendale scores were the lowest nine-hole scores for Anderson and Thurston this season.

“The girls were able to work on their smaller goals to improve their games,” Hansen said. “We will continue to work hard to improve our scores.”
