A couple of points on the scoreboard, along with great defense and goaltending, have been a winning formula for the Fruitport soccer team this week.

The Trojans, who have been struggling a bit to score lately, picked up their second straight 2-0 conference win on Wednesday, this time over Grand Rapids West Catholic.

Brady Brown found the back of the net in the first half to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead before Ryder Merkins scored in the second half to cap off the victory.

Goalkeeper Logan Werschem picked up his third straight shutout performance while also getting the victory.

Head coach Dan Hazekamp credited multiple players with good performances in the victory.

“Jorge Burgos Yack, Jaxon Stone, and Braylon Marshall all had solid play,” he said.

The Trojans, now 9-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play, will travel to North Muskegon on Saturday for a non-conference clash.
